Hi, my name is Joe Fisher, and I'm a wood turner. Yes, it's an addiction.

I grew up in Staten Island, NY, where I gained a love for woodworking from my dad, a talented woodworker in his own right. He made our bedroom set when we were kids, and it withstood all the punishment a couple of growing boys could dish out. Way to go, dad!

I find wood to be a fascinating medium. No two pieces of wood are the same, and even though the tree has died, the wood is still alive. It breathes with the seasons. It moves, warps, twists and cracks as it dries. Some people call these defects, I call them part of the magic of working with such an interesting material.

This is why you'll notice many of my bowls have Natural Edges. This means I used the natural shape of the outside of a log as the rim of the bow. Besides being beautiful and organic, this ensures the piece is completely one-of-a-kind.

I enjoy making things that have a practical use. I think a turned bowl fulfulls its destiny when it's holding something. A pen is most happy when it's being written with. Boxes love to hide small, prized possessions.
